We met up in Frankfurt, but I did some traveling before hand.<\/p>\n<p>I took a ferry to Holland on the Stena Hollandica. It was a nice trip to take on short notice and the second time I traveled to another European country via boat.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter02.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nI couldn&#8217;t tell what these things were, if they were stone or something else, and why they looked like perfect cubes.<\/p>\n<p>I spent 2 ngihts in Amsterdam to see the one Vermeer that I didn&#8217;t see before and the Van Gogh museum.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter03.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t have plans for New Years, but I was going to meet up with Ryan in Seckenheim. I decided to just travel there straight away, but stopped off at my brother&#8217;s favorite city, Wuppertal,  to see the Schwebebahn.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter04.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nTrying to meet up with Ryan in Seckenheim was difficult. We were going to meet at one of the 2 bahn stops, but it wasn&#8217;t the same one. I ended up slipping on the ice when I got off at this station.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter05.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter06.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nOn New Years Ryan and I did some road tripping and saw Strahlenburg Castle and Shriesheim. I couldn&#8217;t figure out the pattern of the stained glass windows.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter07.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter08.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nCute chairs.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter09.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAn ice skating rink in Frankfurt.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter10.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAfter meeting up with Casey, we went to Berlin and stayed with Tim and Jess. It had just snowed and was so cold.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter11.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nWe only had a few days, but I wanted to show Casey what I saw the last time I was there. We went to the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Jewish memorial, and saw where the wall was in Postdamer Platz.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter12.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter13.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter14.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter15.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter16.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The wall parts were even more degraded and graffitied since <a href =\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/?p=452\">I was there in the Fall of 2005<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter17.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nJanuary 2009<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/europe\/berlin_wall.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAugust 2005<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter18.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter19.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nOn the train to Dresden.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter20.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nVermeers 26 and 27.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/EuropeintheWinter21.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nDas Schokoladenm\u00e4dchen by Jean-Etienne Liotard.
