{"id":643,"date":"2009-05-11T23:50:34","date_gmt":"2009-05-12T07:50:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/?p=643"},"modified":"2013-10-12T11:55:38","modified_gmt":"2013-10-12T18:55:38","slug":"ghana-week-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.mikebuffington.net\/02\/?p=643","title":{"rendered":"Ghana Week One"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-01.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<!--more I am in Ghana until 23 May-->Fourteen of us in the DFM strand made a book for our Ghanaian friends.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-02.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nIt had the research we prepared for our trip.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-03.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nI kept the projecting going strong with my mad InDesign skills that I learned from 3 years working on Southwest Hydrology.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-04.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nWhen I got to Ghana I pulled out some Cedis right from the ATM.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-05.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThey were crisp and brand new, unlike all the other dirty bills I have seen since.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-06.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nOne of our first trips was to small artisan villages in Accra. Jess and I visited some drum makers. This is a drum spinning fast on a lathe.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-07.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThey are rough cut by hand before that stage.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-08.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nWe had an impromptu jam session with dance.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-09.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThey were really great.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-10.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-11.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nOne of the drum makers with his son.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-12.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nOn the road to Kumasi there were large termite hills. I didn&#8217;t get a picture of the third, gary, which is like a flour made from the calabash gourd.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-38.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAnd finally, ripe red plantains, the other &#8216;red&#8217; in Red Red.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-39.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nDried plantain strips are more like potato chips than banana chips.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mikebuffington.net\/photos\/Ghana1-40.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nAnother plate of Red Red.
